Spinning Spinning is the process of drawing out and twisting cotton fibers into yarns. Baled cotton contains vegetable matter and it is removed by pickers through a beating process and feeding through rollers. Cotton in large bats is sent for carding where fibers are lined to produce slivers (a large rope of fibers) to facilitate spinning. A sliver has thin and thick spots, so the slivers are combined together to form a thick rope of cotton fibres and separated into rovings used in spinning .
