The Francis Kaplan Turbines Study Unit mounted on a robust steel support, is self-sufficient and is fitted with two reaction turbines, Francis and Kaplan, which can be separately coupled to a braking dc generator.For educational purposes, the turbines are made with a transparent cover so as to allow the visualisation of the hydraulic phenomena and the flow rate regulation through the distributor. For the Kaplan turbine it is also possible to vary the impeller blade angle during the operation. The test unit is equipped with all the necessary instruments to measure flow rate and pressures.
